See Clearly
Live Fully
Awaken to Your True Nature
Zen meditation helps us align body, breath, and posture to cultivate a powerful kiai (spiritual energy) and a focused, refined state of mind and spirit.
Through our meditation practice, zazen, you can experience samadhi—a deep meditative state of absorption in which profound mental clarity emerges.
Rhode Island Zen Dojo is a place where laypeople can sincerely study and practice Zen Buddhism.

OUR PRACTICES
Benefits of Zen training
Meditation

Zazen
Take a moment out of the day to meditate for a few minutes and work on breath and posture. Zen meditation has tremendous benefits in daily life; it can help manage stress, enhance your perception of well-being, and become spiritually healthy.
Expression

Shodo
Refine and express your spiritual maturity with calligraphy, the art of communicating with brush, ink, and paper. Shodo is unique because it is a physical activity that brings us to be fully in the present moment while revealing our current mental state.
Energy

Kiai
Feel renewed and transformed when participating in our Zen practice. Kiai (spiritual energy) is always fostered and maintained during practice. This deep, energetic current can carry over into daily life, infusing it with greater vitality and meaning.

Zen is healing duality: mind-body, self-other, life-death
Visit Us
There is not much required of new students besides a sincere desire to train. However, the following is some valuable information for first-time students:
Location:
We are located at Sage Healing Collaborative at 201 Waterman Ave. East Providence, RI, 02914. Ample parking is available in the back of the building. You may enter through the side door; the dojo is located on the lower ground floor.
Capacity:
Our space is limited, and we have a maximum capacity of 12 participants. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to secure a spot to ensure you have a cushion.
When to arrive:
We ask new students to arrive at least 10 minutes earlier for a brief orientation on how to sit for meditation. We sit cross-legged on cushions. Let us know if you need to sit on a bench or chair, and we’ll accommodate you. Everyone, regardless of physical condition, is welcome to train.
What to wear:
Wear modest comfortable clothes, preferably loose-fitting pants. We remove our shoes upon entering the dojo.
